How to Enjoy ATV Trail Rides
Riding an ATV can be a fantastic way to have fun, but you’ll want to keep a few things in mind to make sure you have the best time possible.
Smart Clothing for ATV Riding
In addition to the legally required safety gear, the parks may or may not have additional rules about what can be worn while riding. Generally speaking, you want to ensure that you wear well-fitted clothing and shoes that will be comfortable throughout the ride.
In order to protect yourself from scratches, sun exposure, and bug bites, consider wearing long pants and long-sleeve tops. Secure pockets keep important items like keys in place. You may find that certain styles of boots can offer added ankle protection while riding. Motorcycle gloves offer protection against surprise tree branches, a bandana can be quickly pulled over the face for protection, and sunscreen can protect any exposed areas against sunburn. Women should consider wearing a highly-rated sports bra for support on bumpy trails.
Finally, be sure to dress appropriately for the weather during your trip. Georgia weather can vary greatly by season and you may need protection against wind, rain, cold, or heat.
Fun Extras for ATV Riding
Capture the adventures and share the memories with a high-quality HD camera and accessories. These modern wearable cameras and drones are highly-rated products designed to capture all of the excitement you find on your ATV!
More Tips for New ATV Riders
- Expect to get dirty – bring a change of clothes to change into after you are finished riding (shoes, socks, underwear, etc.)
- Dress for the weather – wear moisture-wicking clothing and cooling towels to stay refreshed on hot days
- Certain styles of earrings and other jewelry may not be comfortable under a helmet
- Have a plan to stay hydrated during the course of your ride
- Helmets are required by the state of Georgia while riding dirt bikes, but also strongly encouraged while riding all types of equipment

Which places have your favorite ATV trails in North Georgia? Do you bring your own equipment or enjoy the ease of an ATV rental? What other activities are the best ways to thrill seek in the Georgia mountains?
I find it surprising that you could use ATV rentals to travel around different trails. I have a colleague who wants to invest in a new adventure with his daughters next year. I believe that finding a company that offers ATVs for their future vacation trip is a good investment.

Thanks so much for your feedback – riding an ATV is an exciting way to spend time outdoors in North GA!
Very nice and helpful for planning a trip.
Thanks for the feedback, Christy! I hope you have a fun trip!!
Hi there
I once went ATV quad biking in Wales, UK. I loved every minute of it and didn’t want to get off it. I was 13 at the time 😀
Would absolutely love to do it again and North Georgia certainly seems like the ideal place to go ATV Riding
I’d highly recommend it to any thrillseeeker and lover of vehicles and off-roading.
Hi CJ, I also have fond memories of riding our neighbor’s ATVs when I was a kid. It’s a thrilling sport no matter if you are riding around the neighborhood (like we did as kids) or out on designated trails. Enjoy!
Hi there, what a fun way to explore the mountains in an all terrain vehicle. If you want to go into areas where a four-by-four vehicle is required, then having an all terrain vehicle is essential. And not many of us do have these vehicles, unless we live in remote or mountainous areas where it is required.
I love all the different rides you have shared here, together with options ranging from guided tours to quid bikes, and all the parks that offer ATV rides. Thanks for sharing.
Hello, It is an absolute blast to ride an ATV through the mountains. I don’t have an ATV of my own, so I have to rely on friends with ATVs or visit the places with ATV rentals.
Great article and immaculately presented.
Once travelling is suitable again, which trail would you recommend? We are a UK based family of 3 (12 year old bundle of energy), and we are likely to be based in the area for 3-5 days maximum, with other activities in mind so although they all look amazing we would really have to narrow down our choice to one solid recommendation.
Hi, Danny! Since you are traveling from overseas, you’ll likely want to go where you can rent an ATV. Check out the ATV/UTV guided tours for the whole family at Sunburst Stables. Drivers must be 16 years old, but younger riders are allowed on the tours with a parent or guide. Enjoy!
Hey great post, it’s pretty useful especially if you love to travel like me!
I’m going to bookmark this for when travelling is suitable I would like to give these places a visit. I haven’t been to the US as of yet but have always planned to. I haven’t also ridden an ATV before so it’s great knowing that it is beginner friendly and available to rent there and then!
Thanks, Sariyah! It’s a fun time and it’s quite nice to have ATV beginner rides available for people who want to try an ATV ride.
Beautiful pictures and excellent presentation you have here.
Riding an ATV in the beautiful mountain terrain sounds interesting. Moreover, I have not seen a cave for years now.
So, it will be nice to drive through one.
Good to know there are log cabins nearby. But considering the safety gadgets and wears, are children allowed in this trail?
Thank you.
Cheers.
Hi Muslimah, People who have their own ATVs may find that there is more flexibility with allowing younger people to ride and/or drive ATVs. The rental places will require ATV drivers to have a driver’s license, which will prohibit children from driving at their ATV parks.
I really enjoy (present tense) your site about the Georgia mountains. I live just over the TN / GA border and so am familiar with some of the locations you describe.
It is beautiful country in the GA mountains – so different from the southern part of GA that is flat as a pancake. There are many beautiful trails through some of the most beautiful scenery in America.
I also enjoy your presentation of renal properties in the area – some of them are particularly beautiful! I am not much into ATV but am very much into staying at some rental cabin and enjoying the scenery. Thanks for the information.
Dave.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for the website love! There are beautiful places to explore just across the North GA borders in TN, NC, and SC and it is certainly different from the rest of Georgia’s geography. I hope you find the perfect way to enjoy your trip to North Georgia no matter what activities you wish to try.
I very much agree with you that riding an ATV is a lot of fun. But to enjoy it you must dress appropriately like you said. Your long pants and long sleeves shirt are number one priority. Also I agree with you on the gloves and booths. While you protect your chest, you must also protect your head ankles and shoulders
Hi Parameter, Riding an ATV in North Georgia is definitely a fun sport but it’s wise to be safety conscious to keep the fun going! Enjoy the ride!
Great article you have here and thank you for sharing. Taking an adventure is something that most probably everyone gets excited about. And I think riding an ATV would even be more fun while venturing though the woods. Am curious, like do they get to teach learners how to ride an ATV before going into the woods?
Hi Volkert, The experience at the Sunburst Outdoor Adventures ATV parks is beginner-friendly and should help you to get comfortable on the equipment before you go out on the ATV trails.
I haven’t personally spent much time with ATV’s, but I do love being in nature. From the imaging of the sites and what I’ve seen and heard about them, them seem like they’d feel really adventurous, but simultaneously very peaceful. A ride through nature every once in a while could be just what I need to clear my head when I need it. What has your experience on ATV’s been like, and where would you recommend first timers to start?
Hi Chris, I’m in a similar position, in that I don’t feel like I have enough experience on ATV’s to be qualified to make recommendations on where beginners should start (personally I’d start with a good helmet). What I like about renting an ATV from groups like these is that beginners can ask questions about both the trails and the vehicles from the experts that work there. Happy trails!
Good one here. I do not know much about ATVs (do not own one) but it is good to read more about the options for ATV rentals in the georgia mountains. I certainly wouldn’t mind having this kind of fun in these naturally beautiful spaces. Seems like a the perfect way to enjoy an adrenaline rush in the mountains!!
Thanks! I do not own an ATV either so it is great to have ATV rental options in north georgia. Enjoy the trails!!
