What To Take on a Hot Air Balloon Ride

Having a great hot air balloon ride is easy with these tips. These will help you to dress appropriately and bring the right gear with you for a great experience!

Hot Air Balloon Ride Clothing

Riding in a hot air balloon is a lot of fun, but it may require that you get dirty, as landing sites are not exact, and you may be walking through a field of mud after your flight.

  • Pants – wear comfortable clothing that allows you to climb in and out of the gondola basket
  • Shoesyou will be on your feet for the entire experience, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes that can also handle walks over uneven or muddy fields
  • Layers – As temperatures change with increases in altitude, it is essential to have an extra layer of clothing to keep comfortable

Hot Air Balloon Ride Accessories

These accessories will help secure your items and make sure enjoy your balloon ride as much as possible.

  • Sunglasses – take sunglasses for eye protection from the bright sun (even though you will arrive at your destination while it’s still dark)
  • Sunglass Strap and Case – protect your sunglasses with Glasskin – an innovative sunglass strap that transforms into a protective sunglass case (designed by local Georgia designer and company Baggual)
  • Hats – shield your eyes and face from the sun on a bright day (consider a hat with a strap that won’t get blown away by windy conditions)
  • Straps – use lanyards, neck straps, and wrist straps to keep important items from being accidentally dropped

Hot Air Balloon Ride Extras

These items can add some fun to a hot air balloon ride and your other North Georgia thrill-seeking adventures!

  • Binoculars – scan the horizons a little better with a highly-rated pair of binoculars. Binocular strength is measured by the magnification and size of lenses (e.g., a “10 x 25” pair of binoculars has 10x magnification and a 25mm lens)
  • Cameras – bring your cameras and/or ensure your cell phone is fully charged to capture pictures and videos from the air

These ideas should serve as a general guide to a great float in a hot air balloon. Always check with your hot air balloon flight company for more information on what is allowed on a flight.

What a wonderful article about hot air ballooning. This is one of the things on my bucket list to do before my days are numbered. Its good to see there are discounts for senior citizens such as myself but for First Responders and Military alike. It was also refreshing to see some details on what best to wear for a hot air balloon ride especially in the way of footwear and warm clothing. A well put together article with just the right information required.

I have been collecting a list of different places and things I and my husband can go and do to celebrate our anniversary, this will actually be the first time we’ll visit Georgia together as a couple that’s if we decide to visit but I’ll try to convince him. I love the destinations you’ve provided here and their contacts that are included. This will be of great help to me.

Fun is one thing I don’t joke with and I always appreciate every moment I spend making myself happy, one of the most adventurous day of my life was when I tried out this hot air balloon of a thing, at first, I was doubting it but it later turned to fun. I’ve been to Georgia several times but I’ve not done it there, I guess it’ll be a good idea to visit one of these places when next I go. It’s very thoughtful of you to share.

  8. Love Yourself says:

What a brilliant website.  I have never been in a hot air balloon, but I would absolutely LOVE to.  I really love the sound of the Magic Carpet Ride – and I think would be a wonderful wedding gift for my niece who is getting married next week. I am sure that it will be a unique gift, and one that her and her husband will certainly not forget!  I went in a micro-light once and absolutely love it, so this certainly appeals to me!

The next time that I am in the US, I will definitely book a flight.  But first, my lucky niece!

Thanks so much for a great article,

    Renée

    Hey Alice,

    Nice post!

This article definitely revealed some things I never thought about when it comes to riding in a hot air balloon. Appropriate clothing is one of the last things I’d think about even though it should be one of the first. I can imagine it also gets quite cold when you’re up there no matter how warm it is on the ground.

    • Alyce says:

Apparently it may get hot from the balloon’s burner as well, so it’s a great idea to dress in layers for a number of reasons!

  10. KingAndrea says:

This is a really interesting article about hot balloon ride in the Georgia mountain, I’ve never been on a hot balloon so I can’t say how it feels but I believe it’s gonna be amazing. Thanks for sharing this information, anytime I find myself in Georgia or near Georgia, I’ll make sure I be a part abs experience this great adventure. I can easily contact the numbers and details you’ve provided, thanks.

  11. PeterMinea says:

    Hello Alyce!

Flying with a balloon must bring extraordinary sensations and sights as well, especially if you get pretty high in altitude. In order to handle such a fly well and also enjoy it as it’s meant to be, we need also to be in good medical conditions, like no altitude sickness issues, being sober, and not getting afraid up there. I never flied with a balloon, but I can imagine the fun and the amazing it may be.

    Best regards,

    Peter

  12. Christine says:

I have never been on a hot air balloon ride. My father has, it was on his bucket list, and he was so happy when he did it. He really enjoyed the experience. I would like to do that too one day. Georgia must be beautiful, so I can imagine that it provides the perfect setting for a hot air balloon ride. The views must be so awesome, and I think doing something like this is something you’ll always remember.

You give great tips. I wouldn’t have thought of bringing warmer clothing, but well, it does get colder the more you rise in the air, so duh, I should have known that, lol. Thanks for the reminder!

  13. Nadia says:

I like your post. I’m super afraid of heights but my husband keeps telling me how hot air balloon rides are becoming popular and that more and more people consider them for a moment of relaxation with their significant other or as a surprise. i’m still not convinced though lol but that’s just me 🙂 I like how your post talks to the basics like what to bring on a hot air balloon ride as to make the best of the ride.

    Cheers,

    • Alyce says:

I would imagine that riding in a hot air balloon is a big challenge if you aren’t comfortable with heights. If you do want to try it out though, I’d recommend that you start with a tethered ride — these are often what you will find set up at a public event like a festival.

  14. AmDetermined says:

Hi, your post about hot balloon rides just gave me a solution to how i want to spend my birthday with my girlfriend next month, this will give me a moment that I wanted, for future use and to share the post with my social media friend to also benefit from your post may be they want to create a memorable event of their life through hot air balloon Ride  I will be posting your website on my social media.

  15. ROBERT JONES JR says:

Lol I hadn’t really thought of taking a balloon ride! But I am a veteran of the USAF and I always been fascinated with flight of all kinds. I can imagine the scenery and what it looks like at sunrise and sunset! I Bet it is awesome! I have seen sunrise from a fighter Jet and a turbo prop driven aircraft but never a hot air balloon!

I have jumped out of a C-130 sky diving from 14000 feet but never a hot air balloon ride I will try it!

what about the average the charge per hour or per day?

I know aircraft are safe but how safe is Balloon flight?

    • Alyce says:

Hi Robert, you have definitely seen some cool things that most of us will never see! I bet the fighter jet ride is amazing!!

The hot air balloon experience will only take you as fast as the wind is blowing, but it’s certainly still a thrill for most of us.

The rates are higher if you want a private flight, but can be much lower if you are willing to share the experience. The average rate seems to be in the mid $200 range for approximately an hour long flight.

  16. Antonio says:

    Hi

One of my most fondest dream is to go on a hot air balloon ride, no matter where in the world. It is better to fly over beautiful countryside, where your eyes can drink in the view. I really appreciate this review as it gives to me choices to see which balloon ride can fit my budget. The price seems quite reasonable too, another bonus.

Up, up and away as your articles has made my feet itchy.

    Thanks Antonio

    • Alyce says:

I’m glad you’ve found some inspiration… going up in a hot air balloon over North Georgia should be an amazing experience for those “itchy feet”. 🙂

  17. Mike Adkins says:

These Balloon rides look amazing. I live in the UK and have taken a hot air balloon flight over the countryside in Cambridgeshire. I can only guess at the beautiful scenes available in the Georgia Mountains but I am sure it must be a stunning location to take a ride in a Hot Air Balloon.

My experience of a Hot Air Balloon flight was totally positive, being so high and watching the world float by was one of the most peaceful things I have ever done and some how it made me feel closer to nature as the vista from up high gave me a sense on oneness with the earth and the countryside.

I loved every second of my time in a hot air balloon and I would highly recommend giving it a go.

    Wonderful.

    Mike

    • Alyce says:

This is great to hear. I love the idea of floating along with the direction of the wind. It sounds very peaceful, and exciting at the same time!!

  18. Henderson says:

I guess I can just add this to my to do list since I’ll be coming over to Georgia very soon. The first time I experienced the hot balloon was way back when I was younger. I think for this trip if like the fly Wendy fly hot air balloon trip for me and my girlfriend. Its be really nice to seeing there’s a discount there. I’m just so excited and I’m sure my baby will love this too.  Thanks for this.
