Thank you for this incredibly detailed guide on the best restaurants in Helen, GA! I’m planning a trip there soon, and your post has made it so much easier to decide where to dine. The German restaurants sound particularly intriguing, given Helen’s Bavarian theme. Do you have a personal favorite among them? Also, it’s great to see that many of these places are pet-friendly. Have you had the chance to dine at any of these restaurants with your pet? Lastly, I noticed that some restaurants offer live music; do you have any recommendations for a place with a lively atmosphere?

Wow, this is perfect for planning vacation meals! I love to eat at these kinds of local restaurants. You have shown some good recommendations for Helen. I like this Hofbrauhaus restaurant the most because it looks interesting plus has good reviews on facebook and trip advisor. Thank you very much for this valuable info on Helen restaurants.

Hi Pasindu, There are some great chain restaurants out there, but when I travel, I also enjoy getting the chance to try local places that aren’t available at home. Bon appétit!

Oh, I’m German and love good authentic German food.  So the Heidelberg sounds like a great place to visit!  I am in Florida, so it’d be a bit of a drive.  Can you tell me how far Helen is from Atlanta?  I have a cousin in Atlanta that I visit.  So it would be great to hit this restaurant on a visit.  It sounds wonderful!

Hi Leahrae! Helen is about 90 miles from Atlanta and would be about a 90-minute drive. The trip to explore Helen from Atlanta makes a great day trip whenever you have extra time on your visits. Enjoy!

My mother is German and I lived in Germany for 20 years. It’s like driving down memory lane when I see the names of these restaurants. I’ve actually been to the real Bodensee, which is a beautiful lake in Germany. I see that there is even an Edelweiss Street, incredible!

Cimmi’s Caf’e looks lovely but so do all the places really. I think I’d like to try the Troll Tavern, it’s right on the river and it offers vegetarian and vegan options too.

Why does the city of Helen have so many German restaurants and even a street (s) with German name(s)? Is there a history?

    • Alyce says:

Hi Christine, it’s great to get a nod of approval from someone familiar with the German heritage that has inspired the town of Helen, GA. Helen’s German theme began as a business decision in the late 1960s that the town should adopt a Bavarian Alpine theme and rebrand itself as a way to boost tourism.

Wow thank you for all the options.  I love German beer so that picture with all the bottles was great. Made me want to go there now. I haven’t been to Georgia. But my stomach tends to pull me in certain directions and all these great restaurants has it rumbling. Thank you! L, Sammy
