I love your website. It’s the perfect guide for someone venturing to Georgia, especially north side. I used to drink, but it didn’t agree with me. I used to enjoy really cold beer. There was a brand I loved, I can’t remember the name, but it was very dark. I’m thinking, the darker the beer, the richer the flavor? If I was going to visit a brewery, it would be Buck Bald Brewing. I’d get to be in Tennessee and then come back to Georgia since it’s right on the Georgia state line. My favorite part is that leashed pets are welcome. I’m so happy.

Hi Shalisha, A good cold beer is a nice treat, but definitely only when it agrees with you.

Buck Bald Brewing is a neat location and it’s fun to know of places that allow dogs. Even when I can’t bring my own dog with me, I love seeing all of the other dogs! 🙂

I have heard somewhere that the taste of beer increases dopamine activity. No wonder beer is a favorite drink for so many people around the globe. I live in Europe and have never been to the USA before. Though, information about local breweries in North Georgia sounds very tempting. Personally, one of my interests is visiting wineries and breweries whenever abroad.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Jeeda, I agree that visits to local breweries and wineries offer a unique way to learn more about the area. Enjoy!

I’ve planned a trip to Florida but am open to exploring other areas of the US, being a big fan of breweries it was cool to learn of some that are located nearby in Georgia. I haven’t been before so I will look into visiting them soon, especially the Grumpy Old Men Brewing as we will be bringing our cocker spaniel with us so its nice to know they support dogs as not all the ones I have been to in the past have.

Thanks for sharing these breweries if I ever make it there I will go to as many as I can to try out some new BEVs.

    Josh

    • Alyce says:

Hi Joshua, It is always helpful to know where your dog is welcome. When you are traveling with pets, I find it’s even better when you can include them and take them with you as much as possible.

I have never stayed in Georgia long enough to get to some of the untapped wonders. Drinking an ice-cold brew after a hard day’s work is very relaxing. I have never had the pleasure of experiencing a brewery, but I would definitely be interested in checking them out. Some of the breweries you have listed look really good. Great recommendations!

    • Alyce says:

I do hope you are able to visit one or two of these locations, as the local brewmasters really enjoy the chance to share their work and passion with visitors.

    Hello Alyce,

Thank you  for allowing me the opportunity to comment on your article. I found this article to be very informative, especially knowing that there is even a class on international beer styles and another on pairing beer with food and starting your own beer cellar.

I also found it to fascinating, that there are suggested, targeted tastings to help you learn when to drink down-and when to dump those beers down a drain.

Are those percentages by the Grumpy Old Man Brewing section the Alcohol By Volume?

Thank you again for allowing me to comment on such an informative article.

    Blessings To You My Friend,

    Jerry

    • Alyce says:

Hi Jerry, Yes, the ABV number is the Alcohol by Volume measure. As craft beer from independent breweries can vary in strength by a huge amount, it is helpful to know what to expect when enjoying these local craft beers.

This content is so beer-rich, that I can taste that beer bitterness, I enjoyed reading your article although you were focusing on breweries in Georgia, I’ll take Tennessee (Craft Breweries)  since it’s closer to me and I have heard that it’s good.

I love how much details you gave into this blog, so organized. Keep up the good work.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Michael, the brewery in Copperhill is just across the border in Tennessee! Thanks for visiting the site and I hope you have a great trip to the Georgia mountains

  7. Nuttanee says:

I recently did a road trip from NY to Florida and I drove passed Georgia. I have always wanted to visit! This will be a perfect excuse to finally meet my relative and enjoy my time with my husband at the breweries. Cannot wait to visit some of them. There is nothing better than a live music and a craft beer.
    Cheers!

    • Alyce says:

Hi Nattanee, I agree that one of the best ways to relax is with a nice cold drink on a warm day and a chance to enjoy some live music. It’s great that there are some fun options for this in the Georgia mountains.

I hope you have a fantastic trip to North Georgia!!

Living in Michigan we have one of the best places to try fun local breweries and beer which reminds me of the ones you have mentioned here about the Georgia Mountains Breweries. The outdoor areas and dog friendly taverns make for fun adventures before or after a cold brew.

Trying all the different types of IPA’s are interesting to try for sure! At the Grumpy Old Men Brewery, the Sentsation Double IPA is 8% which makes for a stout dring and that is right up my alley.

I may have to take a trip to the Georgia mountains now!

    • Alyce says:

It’s amazing how different that beers can be — and great to know the ABV so that you don’t accidentally overdo it when the tasty drinks!! That double IPA is definitely a strong one!!

  9. Tom says:

    Hi Alyce,

Thanks for this post, it looks like Georgia has a lot to offer, and now there is BEER! The Grumpy Old Me Brewing has a great selection of beers, I love a porter! I also love live music. Looking at their Facebook page, I think you could have a great night in this place.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Tom, The Grumpy Old Men Brewery is a great place to enjoy a craft beer in the Georgia mountains! I hope you have a great visit!!

  10. Kara says:

These places look beautiful. I am not a beer drinker myself, but my significant other is and I really enjoy going to breweries specifically for the unique atmosphere they provide.

I am especially intrigued by Fannin Brewing Companies’ “to-go beer”.

I am with Kat! I am loving the Grumpy Old Men Brewery being dog-friendly! 🙂

    • Alyce says:

Hi Kara, I can definitely understand not being sure if you’d want to visit a brewery if you aren’t really a beer drinker. The nice thing about some of these locations is that they can be great places for more than just beer. Grab some friends, your dog, and spend an afternoon playing games or listening to live music. It’s a memorable time even if you are the one designated as the driver while your friends enjoy the beer! 🙂

  11. Kat says:

I love the name Grumpy Old Men Brewery. It is well chosen, plus it is dog friendly! That’s such a bonus and very accommodating for those who want to go out with their 4 legged buddy. It’s good putting so many breweries on the one page, especially those who might not be familiar with this location or on a road trip and need somewhere to have a refreshing stop. I also love the details of each brewery that you’ve shared – like Tantrum Brewery and their clever choice to grow their own hops and make this a touristy feature of the place. Thanks for sharing informative info.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Kat, Thanks for the feedback. I have a few friends who like to try all of the local breweries in an area, so this would defintely help people like them plan their visits!

      Cheers!

  12. Matthew says:

I’ve heard a lot of great things about the breweries in the Georgia mountains but unfortunately it is a tad too far for me to travel to be able to enjoy a beer on my day off — I’ll have to make a special trip

There’s nothing better than drinking a beer outside in the fresh air with nothing to do but enjoy yourself

I often take my wife to our local beer craft brewery which has all local sourced beers on draft tap but we have to stop ourselves from trying every one of them lol

    • Alyce says:

Hi Matthew, It would certainly be too much to try them all at once. My sweetie and I like to split a tasting when we visit breweries. The pours are generous enough that we both have the opportunity to try everything, and when the tasting is over we both have our favorites… just in case we want to buy a glass or get more to take home!

      Cheers!

      Alyce

Most people would love to be in these type of places where you can relax and enjoy a specially made beer where there’s wide varieties to choose from. Blue Ridge Brewery as well as Tantrum Brewing Company seemed to have a lot of options when it comes to allowing kids and pets to enjoy with the bunch making it a family friendly resto bar and brewering site. I would love to experience a laid back, feel good music, fun fare holding a glass of specialty beer in one of these places!

    • Alyce says:

Some of these breweries have done a great job of making themselves a destination for the whole family. It’s great for adults to be able to relax on a lawn with a gorgeous view while the kids entertain themselves with games. It a great way to get out and explore the area!

      Cheers!

  14. DorcasW says:

    Hello; the attraction as defined seems to be beer brewery only, although kids are invited and the attraction is a dog friendly. I love to know that music is involved but my only fears are;

I am not sure I can control my drinking when it comes to beer. Being unaware of the strength of the home-made beer. should the taste allows me to have excess how safe would I be surrounded by music.DorcasW

    • Alyce says:

      HI Dorcas,

The breweries state the strength of their beers (% alcohol), so you won’t be surprised with one that is stronger than you expected. A handful of them go even farther with the information provided and tell you the IBU, or International Bitterness Units, which is a measure of the beer’s bitterness. IBUs are actually a technical measure of the parts per million of isohumulone found in a beer. So these are definitely not the “home-made” beers you may have tried at a friend’s house!

Also, these places aren’t rowdy bars that stay open all night… they are mostly daytime destinations with a good mix of people that are hanging out with their families to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere.

Of course, it’s always a good idea to have someone with you who is designated to drive — and even better if they know you well enough to make sure that you stay within your limits.

      Cheers!

      Alyce
