Vacation Rentals with Boats on Lake Nottely

Lake Nottely is a beautiful mountain lake near Blairsville, GA and makes a great choice for Summer boating. Approximately 70 percent of the shoreline on Lake Nottely is owned by the U.S. Forest Service and is natural and undeveloped.

Visitors to the lake should note that Lake Nottely is a TVA working lake that does a major water drawdown every year, usually right after Labor Day. In a year with normal rainfall, the water level in Nottely Reservoir varies about 20 feet from summer to winter to provide seasonal flood storage. The water in many coves will go away during this time, and boats will be pulled out of the water until next season. That also means that generally, boat rentals are not available from mid-September through the end of April (when lake levels are lower).

What is your favorite thing about these North Georgia lake house rentals with a boat?

Again there are some beautiful sceneries here.  I love the details given to help fellow travelers.  I myself love to be on a boat.  I like that their is a lot of options to choose from.  If you like being on the water than you can rent a boat.  If you don’t you can still enjoy the visit with the lodging available.  Plus it looks like a great car ride just to see the different lakes.  Have you visited any of them?

  2. Horatius says:

Just the article I needed. Thanks for summing up the various options nicely. I have been researching holiday destinations for next Easter break but my list of candidates was still very long. This article narrowed it down quite a bit considering I want to be sure that the boat is included in the package and I would not have to rent it separately. I had a negative experience a couple of years ago trying to book the two things (home and boat) separately. I have never been to Lake Nottely and most offers on the list seem pretty great.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Horatius, It’s great to find places that include a boat with house rental.

Please note that most places offer these boats as an OPTIONAL amenity that can be added on if desired — make sure to let the owners know in advance that you are interested in the combo rental of the boat with the house! Also, as the timing of the Easter holiday can vary wildly from year to year, you may need to ensure that you are renting when/where there is deep water as many of the North Georgia lakes are “working lakes” and have significant water reservoir drawdowns in the cooler months (roughly mid-September – mid-April).

Have a great trip to the lake!

  3. Randi says:

Thank you for your review of these awesome destinations! Why stay at a regular rental property when you can stay at a rental property…..with a boat! These locations seem like the perfect place to cool down on the next Summer vacation. Why drive all the way to the lake when you can wake up, walk down to the path and your already there! There are so many lakes in the area to choose from, and I really appreciated your useful tips, just need to print it out and I have the perfect Summer checklist.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Randi, I couldn’t agree more! I love being able to wake up and enjoy my coffee with stunning views and access to a lake!!

  4. John says:

Wow! Those properties really are something else – with such beautiful locations you couldn’t help but relax and unwind.

I don’t think that a boat rental would really be “optional” for me, more like a “must have”!!

I read in one of the other comments about how the Fall was a great time to visit as the trees will be changing colours then, that must make for some stunning photographs.

I was wondering though, are the restaurants in the area within walking distance from the properties or would I need a vehicle to get around?

    Thanks

    John

  5. Dave says:

Hi there Alyce. Thanks for the comprehensive list of rental properties with boats. I am planning to visit lake Nottely next month with a group of friends and we were thinking of getting a boat to spice up our experience there. It is our first time having a boat ride so we wanted it to be a thing to remember. We are going to go through the options you have provided here and see which is our best fit. Hopefully, I will come and share my experience here soon.  🙂

    • Alyce says:

Hi Dave, Lake Nottely has some excellent waterfront rental properties with boats; however, please keep in mind that Lake Nottely does a major water drawdown each year. Boats may not be available in all areas of the lake due to the annual winter water drawdown.

To take full advantage of the properties with boats, consider planning your trip for sometime between May and mid-September.

      Enjoy!

  6. Kokontala says:

Greetings! I went through all the information on lakefront mountain rentals and I found it very interesting that so many places will include a boat with the house rental. A boat to use as I wish certainly makes an enjoyable vacation. I really appreciate finding this surprising information. I will definitely be sharing it and hopefully booking something soon!

    • Alyce says:

Hello Kokontala, including an optional boat with a cabin rental is a great way to make a lakefront rental cabin stand out from the crowd! I think it’s great that these cabin rental owners are so innovative with the amenities they offer for their guests. I hope you enjoy your vacation and time on the lake!

  7. Sunny says:

Yes, please! It definitely comes to the point that when having a vacation in such an incredible place in nature, you have to have a boat with you as well. Thanks for giving me a choice here. I have found some rentals you talked about and put them into consideration. However, they have no boat included. These lakefront mountain rental properties that include boats are now the win-win choice I would say. North Georgia, here we come!!!

    Thanks!

    • Alyce says:

I love how these lakefront rental homes make it so easy to get everything you want in one place! I hope you have a wonderful visit and find North Georgia to be one of your new favorite places! 🙂

  8. Kevin says:

Awesome post, Alyce! All of these properties look amazing. As a realtor, I’m always looking for ways to use a property other than directly living in them. After reading this post, I realized that renting out lakefront homes and boats is an amazing way to make use of waterfront properties without residing in them. I’ll make sure to come down to Georgia sometime and rent some of these properties out. Which property here is your favorite?

    • Alyce says:

Hi Kevin, I’m so happy these great houses are taking full advantage of their waterfront locations during the summer months! My favorite would likely be on Lake Rabun, but I’d gladly spend the day at any of these beautiful locations!

  9. Daniella says:

    Hi there,

Thanks for sharing this useful article!

We are used to traveling to Italy every year, but now we want to go to a different destination to discover other horizons.

The Georgia Mountains look beautiful, and this is a place that I will put on my top priority list. I love boating, so I am sure I will have lots of fun there:) Just a question, please. My husband loves fishing when he is on vacation, so I wonder we can find fishing charters in the Lakefront? If there are, for sure we are coming:). Oh, I almost forgot, when would be the best time of the year to visit the area?

    Thanks a lot!

    • Alyce says:

Hi Daniella, The most popular time to visit is during the Fall when the leaves change colors and put on a natural display!

The best time to take advantage of the lake homes above is the summer when the lake water level is at its fullest. There are lots of different outfitters who can help with fishing on the local lakes, rivers, and streams!

  10. Alex Chivers says:

Wow, this would be bliss for me.  Not sure it’s really in my price range but I would love to do something like this.  I used to go canoeing a few years back not the same but know how peaceful it is in these kinds of places.  I’ve never been to Georgia before but looks so nice in the pictures.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Alex, There are a lot of beautiful places to enjoy a canoe ride in the area. These lakefront homes include some of the fancier homes in the mountains, but there are a lot of more affordable rentals in North Georgia as well. I hope you can make it for a visit and experience the natural beauty of the GA mountains!

  11. LineCowley says:

I never realised there were so many lakes in the Georgia mountains area and they all look beautiful. Many of these properties seem to be very reasonably priced, for what looks like superb accommodation.

It is great that one has the option of also renting a boat while you are staying at the property. A pontoon boat seems quite big, so does one need a skippers licence to navigate it? How many people do you need on board to moor the boat? It looks as if you need at least one at the front and one at the back, but maybe I am wrong?

    • Alyce says:

Hello, Driving a boat does take some practice, so it is helpful if you have someone with boating experience to drive the boat. The required number of people to dock the boat would depend on the experience level of the captain.

  12. Andy says:

Hi, I have to say many of the prices you show here look very reasonable. I think I would need to research the areas a little more in order to make an informed decision. I would be most interested to know for example whether any of the lakes have restaurants that you can access by boat. Also whether there are any small towns or settlements on the banks of the lakes that could be attractive places to visit or whether a vacation in these locations is mainly about seclusion and enjoying time with the people you are with. Some of my best and most memorable vacations were on small riverboats, or on sailing boats for just a week. So I would definitely be in the market to rent one of these places. Best regards, Andy

    • Alyce says:

Hi Andy, There are a handful of seasonal restaurants on most of these lakes (and you could drive your boat to get there), but the lakes are generally more residential and natural than built up with a town on the shore. It’s a really nice way to enjoy the mountains!

  13. Misael H says:

I am seriously so happy that you have provided multiple options that actually have boats included. Because I do not have a boat I want to go to these properties to vacation and have a boat already in the water. Thank you so much for being so thorough and concise with this article it has been helpful

    • Alyce says:

Hi Misael, I agree that this is a very convenient way to have a memorial Summer vacation in North Georgia. Enjoy your trip!

  14. Max says:

Georgia is a beautiful place and these vacation rentals look like amazing deals for groups.  If we split the costs then they’d be a steal.  The private rentals sound more ideal for me and my family since there would be kids.  And wow, I didn’t realize how many gorgeous lakes Georgia has.  And if this is only north GA, I can only imagine what the southern part of the state has.  So many hidden spots that the average tourist would never consider looking into.  I’m so glad I found this.  I will use this guide and others when I’m looking for a great group getaway.  Having a boat would make so many great memories, too.  Depending on time of year the bug spray is definitely an important item to bring.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Max, These Georgia mountain lakes are fantastic places for a family vacation and especially if you’re able to have a boat conveniently available at your rental house! Definitely pack the bug spray for any Summer trips. I hope you and your family have a wonderful trip!

  15. My best friend is interested in taking his girlfriend out on vacation, but he’s not sure where to start. The idea of taking her to a place with lakes and watery bodies is perfect! I’ll be sure to recommend that he look for a vacation rental that suits his needs.

  16. Sheimicka Freeman says:

Hi, Looking for vacation rental with boat how do we contact the owners.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Sheimicka, Each of the properties has it’s own listing. Click on the link for the one(s) you are interested in renting. The listing page will show current availability, more details about the property, and a way to email the owner(s) as well.
      Enjoy your vacation!

  17. Tyler says:

Wow there are some fantastic properties here. These prices are quite reasonable as well. It also looks like there are a lot of other fun activities to do in this area as well. Unfortunately being from Canada I will have to wait until the travel restrictions are lifted but I am keeping this on my list for future travel.
    Thanks.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Tyler, These travel restrictions have been hard for those of us who like to get out and explore the world. There are definitely lots of options for fun in the Georgia mountains, so when the timing is right, it’s a great choice for a fun vacation!

  18. hillarydandy says:

    • Alyce says:

  24. edahnewton1 says:

Hey nice article and good advice (invaluable) on getting a place with a boat included. Sure you could rent a boat from a nearby marina but it’s often a time consuming hassle (not ideal for precious vacation time!).  I didn’t realize that there even were places in the Georgia mountains that offered boat rentals, so I really appreciate your sharing this helpful list.

    • Alyce says:

It’s definitely nice when you can get everything you need in one place. Enjoy your vacation on the lake in the Georgia mountains!

This reminds me of my last holiday trip with my family at a wine estate that also features a beautiful lagoon. The restaurant is situated right in front of the lagoon which allows guests to enjoy their meals in the cosy and serene atmosphere that the freshwater provides. Grateful also for the hints, they are vital in making the experience memorable.

Hi Debbie! The Georgia mountains are at least a 5 hour drive from the closest ocean views (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida all have beaches within a 5 – 6 hour drive), but we are fortunate to have many wonderful fresh water lakes, creeks, and rivers to explore! Plus, adding a boat rental to any of these beautiful lakefront house rentals would make for a fantastic Summer vacation with everything you need in one place!

How long did it take to create such a great site.  Are the advertisements like Overstock coming from the Google Adsense.  I am having a hard time getting that done.  I really like how your ads just do not take away from the subject of your site.  I love all the great menus you set up and they answer any question you may have on travel to these wonderful places.  I loved your content and the very creative way you put it all together.  Great Job.  I could learn a lot from you.

Thank you Kathleen! The website currently has a combination of ads from local sponsors and Google Adsense. I’m happy to hear that the ads you see feel relevant for the subject!

I really like how you show rental properties with a lakefront for boats on Lake Blue Ridge and that it is within reason to obtain one of these properties even if you are not a particularly high earner. Do you think that Lake Blue Ridge is one of the most scenic places to rent property in the United States? What makes it different from campgrounds?

    • Alyce says:

Hi Jon, I think the main difference from campgrounds here is that these properties include some nice accomodations with all the modern comforts. Adding a boat with a dock is a perk that can be hard to find — even when buying a property!

Lake Blue Ridge is quite scenic and a great place to combine getting lake time and mountain time! Even if you don’t rent a home on the lakefront, it’s still possible to rent a boat at the lake for the day and enjoy a fantastic time!

These are absolutely beautiful, idyllic and picturesque locations. It’s great that you’ve included dog friendly accommodation too as that’s important to me. Also, listing the available activities is great e.g kayaks etc. I like a little bit of adventure and activity so I’m glad you’ve covered these options too. I will definitely consider these locations in the future.  The Lake Notterly properties are my favourites. Thanks

Hi Martine, I came across one of these listings by accident and realized what a wonderful idea that it is to include a boat on a rental of a waterfront property! I’ve rented lake homes and I’ve rented boats — getting that all taken care of in one place (on site) is a huge way to get a great start to a vacation.

Lake Nottely is a beautiful option for summertime boating fun!

Detailed view of the lake holidays for all nature lovers. Certainly one way to avoid city crowds and enjoy the clean air and beautiful nature by the water. With a note for the things you need to make your vacation more enjoyable, as well as pricing guidelines for everyone to find something for themselves.

Hello there. This is a fantastic article for people who want to escape from big city life and enjoy nature and small town life. You gave us so beautiful places from we can choose and also described everything that the potential renters would like to know. The only thing I regret is that I am not in the USA so I cannot visit these lovely places as soon as I’d like. But in the future when I do visit the USA, I will seriously consider the Georgia mountains and stay in one of these cabins with a boat! Thank you very much for this useful information.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Petar, It really is a nice option to be able to have a boat available on site when you get to your vacation home!!

Wow I really really enjoyed this post.  I live in New Zealand but we are planning a N America trip for two years time.  This did not occur to me as an option but you have ma salivating over the thought of it.

This combines 3 things that I really am fanatical about; Cabin stays, lakeside locations and the ability to navigate the lake by boat and maybe catch the odd bass!

Great post, great job thanks, My wife and I are seriously looking at some of these fantastic options now for that trip in two years time, thanks for the inspiration.
