Seems like this years edition would be the kicker. I have say though, the tips you shared would definitely go a long way. Of course, a clear head for the road. I think it might be better as per your recommendation, if the driver for excursions is sober altogether. I also think the comfy shoes would come in handy. I just hope more wineries are added before the due date.

    Regards

Hi Rhain, There were 2 more wineries added today, and hopefully the full (and lengthy) list of participating wineries will be shared soon!

Thanks a lot for sharing with us such an amazing article about Georgia Mountains Wine highway Week Spring 2020.

I would love to take part in the Georgia Mountains Wine highway Week event. It would be an opportunity for me to make new friends, meet a new world and taste that wine.

Thanks a lot for sharing this amazing article with us. Good luck!

Hi Razvanllie, You are right that it is a great way to make new friends, as there are lots of friendly people attending and it’s easy to strike up a conversation about the great wines, weather, and scenery! I hope to see you there!!

This honestly sounds like heaven, quality wines from over 20 vineyards just sound like too good of an offer to turn down. I am yet to travel to the US and the idea of travelling through Georgia just sounds so up my street, I love visiting places in general so I am sure this would be great for me.

However, since I’m 20 and from the UK I will how to catch the next one. Is this an annual event as I would love to make it in 2021?

    Thanks,

    Josh

Hi Joshua, This has been an annual event for many years now, so we will cross our fingers that it will continue into the future!

I think the Georgia mountains wine highway week event is a great time one can share with friends and family members that are of drinking age and you can get to meet new people. Apart from that we’ll also get to enjoy some new tastes and no doubt these vineyards will be giving their very best. Aren’t there some non alcohol wines to test there just in case I have a friend who doesn’t drink strong stuff? Thanks for the heads up and update I’m definitely looking forward to this event.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Donny, that is a great question. The vineyards do allow visitors of all ages (even kids!), but guests must be at least 21 years old to enjoy the wines. Many of them do offer other options including local craft beer, wine slushies, or soft drinks. You can check with the each vineyard to learn more about their offerings!

      Regards, Alyce

    Hi

To me it sounds like a heavenly delight of  mixing travel with wine. I really do like vising wineries, to see what they have to offer in the way of new wines  and the types of grapes that they are using. You have explained the itinerary very well, emphasising that not  all vineyards will be on it. The passport system is a good one and most certainly reward those who are dedicated enough to do the whole tour. The only trouble I can see is the drink driving concerns I have. If you even have a glass of wine and you visit the 3 or 4 places that you recommend, you can be over the drink drive limit. My question would be is there a way you go around the wineries and vineyard without relying on a car, especially if you do want to drink?

    Thanks

    Antonio

Hi Antonio, You are right to be concerned about driving after a trip to the Georgia vineyards. Most of these vineyards are located in rural areas and are not close to each other, so you would need a driver or to hire an group excursion / tour bus to get to them.

There are a couple of wineries that are close to small towns where you could stay. If you happen to be staying in Tiger, you could walk to Tiger Mountain Vineyards. If you are staying in Helen, then Habersham Winery could be a fun option.

Also, there are a handful of vineyards that have lodging available on site

However, to fully take advantage of all of the vineyards that participate in Wine Highway Week, you will need transportation to travel those distances.

      Hope that helps!

Wow! That looks like 10 days of heaven.

Great article appeals to both my head and heart, as long as I’m not the designated driver!

Have you done one of these tours yourself?

Does Georgia export wines? I’m UK based and see most US wines from California.

Loved the tips section as well. Really helpful.

    • Alyce says:

Hi Richard, I definitely enjoy visiting the wineries for both the wine and the natural beauty of the vineyards. Wines can be ordered and shipped from many of the vineyards — I am a member of 2 wine clubs that regularly ship selections to their members (Frogtown Cellars and Wolf Mountain Vineyards).

The USA rules for shipping wine vary by state (some allow it while others do not), but I am not sure about whether or not they are allowed to (or choose to) export their wines directly to customers.

I did the full Wine Highway Week tour in 2018 and found it to be a fantastic experience and value. I highly recommend it to everyone!!

Some great tips here – you’ve obviously done this sort of thing a lot! Having a designated driver each day is obviously very important, as is not relying on wine to keep you hydrated (bad idea). I love your suggestion of wine glass markers or charms – that hadn’t occurred to me before but clearly makes a lot of sense, plus having a handy stain remover pen, especially important when tasting red wines. Great article, thanks for sharing.

    • Alyce says:

Thanks so much for your kind words. Having a driver is an important part of having a safe and fun trip to wine country. Since this is a multi-day event, it would be fairly easy for a group to alternate drivers on different days so that everyone gets to enjoy the wine. 🙂

Thank you very much for giving us this wonderful article about Wine Highway week in the Georgia Mountains. My father produces over 100L of red wine every year and I want to say that this passion has been passed on to the whole family. We have read on the Internet a lot of interesting things about this event and this year we even decided to visit and be present here. We would like to visit Chateau Meichtry but we would like to stay several days and we have a problem finding a place to stay overnight. What could you recommend? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks again and wish you all the best!
